Miscellaneous Stuff (including Search utilities and Sites I like)

One of the most relevant things that people can do one the Net is to serach for a specific topic of their interest. Listed are a few Search Utilities, along with their respective search strategies that would aid you in finding the right stuff.
A word of caution though: The O-net connection going out of St. Catharines is extremely slow, so this might be slow for those of you accessing the page from outside Brock (St. Catharines). People accessing the page from outside St. Catharines, would have realized by now how extruciatingly slow this connection has been. Sorry - it is out of my hands.

Utilities

• Google Search Engine
Description: Perhaps one of the most popular search engine. In laymen terms, it is based on the "PageRank" system. Developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Stanford University. Elements of Distributed computing are evident in the search engine.
I use it almost exclusively now and if you are using a WinX box, you can install a "Google toolbar" - quite convenient.

  • Description: It is very elaborate search scheme. It encompasses all the engines - well all the ones that you normally use.
    Very Powerful and definately WOWable!!!
• MetaSearch Site - Multiple engines searched at once!!!
• Ultra-Infoseek from SUN Microsystems: Suddenly My Favourite!
  • Description: Still in its Beta version, it is perhaps the fastest search engine available. It knows aver 50 million URLs.
  • It allows for automatic Name recognition
• Alta Vista Search: The most talked about and the Hottest Search strategy.
  • Description: You can find out the links to your home pages. You can find the address of your friend, utility software. A lot of stuff... the search for over 10 billion words (latest projections)
  • Advanced Search Feature.
• Open Text Corporation - Waterloo based Canadian International Organization.
• Lycos Inc. Home Page: Another strategy for Searching Web Sites and the Topics of intererst.
• Webcrawler
  • Description: The Webcrawler is one of many tools you can use to find what you are looking for on the World Wide Web. There is a wealth of information available on the Web, and the Webcrawler lets you search through much of it to find what you want.

  Prof. J. Radue	My Supervisor at the Undergraduate Level. He has since migrated to another field of computing.
  Brian's Den	Dr. Brian J. Ross, an Inspirational Professor, who is instrumental in moulding me into what I have become - the good aspects.
  Dr. Rick Bodner - Rick's Realm	A brilliant and a True Gentleman whom I have had pleasure of knowing and calling him a friend.
  Des's Dungeon	A very Nice Guy who has taught me so much was instrumental in my getting a "Real Job"
  Paul's Parlour	A very Smart Guy, with whom I worked for 4 years.
  Dave's World	David William Dametto - what can I say - he was the person I had known longest since I came to Canada. He had helped me in uncountable ways. Everyone should have a friend like him. I can't say enough good things about him. On 20th March 2003, quite unexpetedly he passed away. His loss has touched and affected me in ways unlike any other loss I have suffered. My tribute to him is enclosed here. Lot of my/our friends showed up at his funeral and that was heatening and comforting for me.
  Andy Mannnnnn...	Andy - a very liked, sociable and fun guy. He too is a gentleman. I wish him continued success at evrything he does Like Dave, he has no Home Page
  Nisheeth "The Brainy" Gaur	Nisheeth - I came to know Nisheeth when I was in 5th grade. And despite the fact that I kept bouncing off from one place to another, I always maintained a connexion with him. I always admired him for his work ethic, and his helpful ways. He is the only guy who stood beside me in my "bad" (or naughty) times.
